7 Summer Diseases to Watch Out For!





This year, according to a news channel, 2 cities from Maharashtra are amongst the 11 hottest places in the world. With such tremendous rise in temperature every year, we must have started taking care of ourselves with proper diet, fluid intake, clothes and all other things as discussed in one of our blogs before! But, even after all the precautions, the threat of catching a summer disease pertains. Here are some of the most common diseases in summer:
1. Food Infection
Due to excessive heat in the summers, the food items that have even a small amount of water content, spoil quickly! This is because, the temperature in summers is apt for the excessive growth of bacteria and mold! Consumption of such food items might cause food poisoning due to toxic content, resulting in  pain, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting. To prevent this risk, cook the food properly and keep the leftover food in the refrigerator.


2. Heat Stroke
Heat stroke is a common summer disease which results in nausea, seizures, unconsciousness and in worst cases, even coma. Symptoms include throbbing headache, difficulty in breathing, rapid pulse, high body temperature etc. To prevent this, you must avoid going out in the afternoon and in avoidable situations, should use a stole or scarf to cover your head.
 
3. Sun Burns
Sunburn do not only mean tanning! These are the burns caused to the living tissue under the skin that has fatal outcome! When people are exposed to sun for long periods the skin turns red, becomes itchy, hot and causes dizziness. To protect yourself from sunburn, use a sunscreen lotion of SPF 30 or more, 20 minutes before heading out in the sun.


4. Viral Diseases
Viruses that cause diseases such as Mumps, Chicken Pox, Measles, Hepatitis, etc. mostly spread during summers! These are serious and threatening diseases that can be fought with proper hygiene, healthy food, boiled water, lighter homemade food and plenty of juices. Proper vaccination against these viruses is always recommended!

5. Flu
Flu is another common disease of summer. Avoid excessive intake of oily foods and cold drinks. Children tend to catch up flu quickly and hence should be kept away from cold and chilled water in summer days.

6. Cough
It is not true that cough is caused only in winters! Some of the individuals suffer from this disease even in summers. You should try your level best to avoid drinking chilled water and roaming in sun, which usually is the main reason of cough in summer.

7. Typhoid
Typhoid is a kind of severe fever which takes place due to a specific bacterium that spreads quickly in humid conditions. Symptoms include pain in abdomen, headache, weight loss and weak bodies. To prevent this disease, make sure you drink plenty of clean, potable water, avoid outside oily food and maintain cleanliness around.

It is not that every individual suffers from these diseases, but you still must take all the precautions necessary to stay healthy and fit. Summers are a beautiful time to spend with friends and family if you are healthy! All you need is awareness to enjoy the good times!
