Fruits are one of the healthiest sources of carbohydrates. Incorporating fruit in the diet, alongside healthy eating and regular exercise, can help contribute to weight loss. According to research, people should consume 2 cups of fruit per day as part of a balanced diet. Studies also report that most types of fruits have beneficial properties, including anti-obesity effects

Best fruits for weight loss

  • Apples

One medium apple contains 104 calories and 4.8 grams of fiber. An observation study determined that people who ate apples lost an average of 1.24 kg per daily serving over a period of time. Apples can be enjoyed in a variety of both cooked and raw. Consider adding it to hot and cold cereals, yogurt, salads, or baking it on their own.


  • Berries

Berries are a low-calorie nutrient powerhouse. A 1/2 cup (74 grams) of blueberries contains just 42 calories but provides 12% of the RDI for vitamin C and manganese, as well as 18% for vitamin K. Additionally, eating berries can help decrease cholesterol levels, reduce blood pressure, and lower inflammation, which may be particularly helpful to people who are overweight. Both fresh or frozen berries can be added to cereal or yogurt for breakfast, blended in a healthy smoothie, or tossed in a salad.


  • Melons

Melons are very low in calories and have a high water content, which makes them very weight loss friendly. Though low in calories, melons are rich in fiber, potassium, and antioxidants, such as vitamin C, beta-carotene, and lycopene. Moreover, consuming fruits with high water content may help you shed extra weight  Melons can be enjoyed fresh, cubed, or in a salad. They’re also easily blended into smoothies or frozen into fruit popsicles.


Fruits can be an excellent aid to reaching or maintaining a moderate weight. But simply eating fruits is not the key to weight loss. Along with fruits, regular physical activity is also important.
