Debunking the 4 most common myths about COVID-19 Vaccines

As the COVID-19 vaccines are rolling out in India, it is essential to confront the myths and rumours that can contribute to vaccine hesitation. With this guiding thought in mind, SMBT discusses and debunks the common myths that are going on regarding the COVID-19 vaccines. Keep reading!

Myth #1:

You don’t require the vaccine if you’ve already gotten and recovered from COVID-19

Fact: It is crucial to note that having recovered from the virus does not ensure lifelong immunity. You might not require the vaccine for 60-90 days after the recovery from infection, as there will be antibodies supporting your defence system against it. However, you will need to take the vaccine for further protection once this period is over.

Myth #2:

There is no need to wear a mask and follow the other precautions after getting vaccinated

Fact: All the experts are in the agreement that it unsafe to throw caution to the wind after getting vaccinated. The vaccine reduces but it doesn’t totally eliminate the risk of catching the virus again. Masking is a must and double masking is advisable when you’re going into a crowded area.

Myth #3:

The vaccines are unsafe as they were developed so quickly.

Fact: Despite the accelerated pace of the rolling out of vaccines globally, experts have assured that there has been no compromise on the research, review, and approval processes. Global cooperation between countries and the industry occurred at an accelerated pace, and hence it was developed within a short span of time.

Myth #4:

The side effects of the vaccine are dangerous and severe

Fact: The vaccines were not developed with foetal tissue, and do not contain any materials like implants, microchips, or tracking devices. Just like other vaccines, there are short-term mild or moderate side effects which last for a day or two and indicate that your immune system is responding.

Getting the COVID-19 vaccine is important to win this battle against COVID-19. Don’t give in to the myths, and get yourself vaccinated without any hesitation. Stay alert, stay informed, with SMBT.
