Nanotechnology to Monitor Cancer Treatment

With the advancement of technology a team led by Indian Scientists from the prestigious
Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed a nanotechnology that can monitor the
effectiveness of the cancer treatment within hours after the commencement of the therapy. Watch
the video below to know more.
Shiladitya Sengupta, a principal investigator at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
said, "We have developed a nano-technology, which first delivers an anticancer drug specifically to
the tumour, and if the tumour starts dying or regressing, it then starts lighting up the tumour in real
time," According to him this will help in taking timely action to stop chemotherapy if the treatment
is not responsive.

In this process-
  •  They used a nanoparticle which delivered the drug and then started to light up when the cancer cells began to die.
  •  With this they were able to visualise if a tumour is resistant or susceptible to a treatment way sooner than the current available methods.
This indeed is a great development that can save many patients from getting wrong
treatment for a prolonged time. SMBT, the best Medical College in Nashik, always motivates its
students to grow academically and professionally and help in the development of the society
through learning and keeping themselves abreast with such new scientific and medical
developments.
