Monsoons are here, yay! It is a lovely season but unfortunately, as much fun it is, it is also a season that plays host to a number of water and air borne diseases. Something as ordinary and tempting as eating at a roadside stall during monsoon can also give rise to a number of health disorders. How to stay away from germs and infections you ask? A few water borne diseases you need to watch out for this monsoon are typhoid, malaria, dengue, viral fever, jaundice, diarrhea and so on. A lot of these diseases can be prevented if taken proper precautions beforehand. One must know about the symptoms for such diseases and infections because it is important to know about the disease before fighting it.
  • Looking for symptoms


The symptoms for typhoid, dengue, diarrhea and viral fever are almost similar and include fever, body aches, fatigue et al. While for malaria it is rapid increase or decrease in the body temperature, profuse sweating, vomiting and nausea.
  • How to take care?


Since the aforementioned diseases are waterborne - dengue and malaria being caused by mosquitoes that thrive in stagnant water. To prevent such diseases one must get rid of unclean water bodies around - if there are any. If in case you have already contracted any of those diseases, consult your doctor. However, in cases of malaria and dengue one must get a blood test done.
It is very important to keep yourselves hydrated amongst other important things. In case of Diarrhea, for example, it is very vital to consume a lot of fluids. Drink boiled water and ginger tea if it is cold outside. Other times one must drink lemon tea, mint tea or cardamom tea. Also, be careful about the food you eat - especially while consuming outside food. Even if the food is homemade, do ensure that the vegetables are washed and are clean. Fried foods must be avoided as much as possible.
