RELEVANCE OF AYURVEDA IN TODAY’S WORLD

Blogger.valens@gmail.com

The word Ayurveda is composed of ‘Ayur’ meaning life and ‘Veda’ meaning science. When putting together, Ayurveda literally means the science of life. For a long time, the importance of Ayurveda was neglected, with modern science taking the front foot. But now, the world is slowly trying to explore the field of Ayurveda as modern science fails to solve some of our problems.

Why Ayurveda?
Ayurveda, as discussed earlier, is the science of life. It concentrates on the prevention of problems rather than finding ways to cure them later. In simple words. Ayurveda provides guidelines and lays out a set of instructions, that, when followed regularly, will lead to optimum utilization of one’s energy and balanced living. The basics of Ayurveda lies in seeing an individual as a part of the environment interacting with nature.

For example, according to Ayurveda, one must wake up before 10 am in the morning and have a bath, meditate, exercise, and have breakfast within two hours of waking up as Kapha, a quality associated with lethargy, dominates the human body in between 6 am to 10 am. Hence, an early rise will guarantee a fresh and energetic day. Similarly, all the heavy meals should be consumed between 10 am to 2 pm as the quality that is associated with fire and digestive aids, Pitta, is at its highest during this time. In the time period 2 pm to 6 pm, Vata energy is at its highest and aids in mental work and creativity. In the evening, Kapha energy again comes into play and the cycle completes.

This cycle, if noticed, goes in sync with the cycle of the sun (i.e, nature). Ayurveda is all about the observations made between the similarities of nature and humans and using those observations to live a life full of zeal and happiness. Ayurveda is a 5000-year-old philosophy based on a deep understanding of the human body as a whole, encompassing the mind, spirit and emotions. It embraces medical science, philosophy, psychology as well as environmental factors.

Like the world accepted the benefits of Yoga and meditation that has its roots from India and its time that it will soon start acknowledging the importance of this Indian science as well. The holistic approach of Ayurveda insists on finding natural cures to our problems. It is a sustainable system of healing that is available to all and works in harmony with the natural world. Ayurvedic healing tools are easily available and the central message of Ayurveda is, “let food be your medicine and kitchen be your first pharmacy”.

At S.M.B.T Ayurved College and Hospital, we train our students and treat our patients with the mission of reminding them of the power of Indian roots and the vision to surpass the conventional approach to medical science. At S.M.B.T Ayurved College and Hospital, students learn the ways of improving lifestyle by amalgamating traditional Ayurveda with modern medicine.

SMBT’s coming up with a brand-new Oncology Centre

Blogger.valens@gmail.com

There are more than 3 million prevalent cases of cancer in India, though the real number is likely tripled due to a large number of cases left undetected and unreported. India is projected to see 1.23 million new cancer cases a year, with 20% increase expected by 2020, leading to 1.7 million new cases a year by 2035.

The survival rate disparity is stunning. In India, 70% of new cases leads to death within a year; it can be close to reverse in the U.S. and elsewhere. Millions are dying from cancer, prematurely, without ever knowing they had the disease.
To address these enormous concerns, the solution must be two-pronged: Indians need to be better educated on the disease and we need to have better, more affordable access to early diagnosis as well as timely treatment.

SMBT Trust proposes to start an Oncology Centre
SMBT Trust is coming up with a state of art ‘Oncology Centre’ at our Nandi Hills campus. It will be a one of a kind hospital with the latest technology and quality equipment specifically concentrating on Radiation Oncology, Surgical Oncology and Medical Oncology. We are planning to setup 100 beds into the hospital, with special rooms and ICU.

Our aim is to:
1. Increase mortality and mobility from cancer, and improve the quality of life for cancer patients.
2. Excel in basic, translational and clinical research and in the application of fundamental knowledge to prevent and cure cancer, and to improve the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
3. Safely and compassionately provide the full range of evidence based, preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic, supportive and patient focused services to cancer patient and their families.
4. Lead in cancer education of health professionals, scientists, patients and their families, and the community at large.

We, truly are looking forward to the development of the ‘Oncology Centre’, which will give us an opportunity to save people from the one disease that is the cause of thousands of casualties every year.
This, we believe will take us a step closer to fulfilling our goal of providing a full-fledged healthcare university for the common people located in the region of North Maharashtra.

STUDY TIPS FOR MBBS STUDENTS

SMBT Group of Institutions

In the face of harsh reality, students today have to deal with immense competition. We are preparing students towards becoming an element of future where they play a crucial role in sustaining it. The expectations the world has from the field of medicine puts immense pressure on them thus making MBBS students require the right type of guidance to give them more clarity and assurance about themselves.

Study Tip 1: Being organised

It is really important to sort out the amount of time you must dedicate towards your college and research during leisure time. Medicine is an elaborate course where the student must spend extra 4-5 hours after college to master the terminology and get more clarity regarding the topics discussed in their classes. Have a schedule to follow and get used to it.
Keep the schedule flexible so that your attitude towards everyday tasks doesn’t become rigid. The more time you dedicate towards refining your knowledge, the more your proficiency.

Study Tip 2: Stay Healthy

As a medical student, your future will be centred around being held responsible towards helping others take care of their health. To become a successful doctor, you must first learn to take care of yourself and be able to perform efficiently. Have an adequate amount of sleep and eat healthy food. Stay away from vices that disguise themselves as stress busters.
Taking breaks is also an important habit to make sure your body gets enough of rest while being a part of an intensely active schedule.

Study Tip 3: Learn about Medicine

Read journals and articles related to medicine and update yourself with comments and happenings in the field of medicine all over the world. When you prioritize book knowledge, you get habituated to mugging up and only knowing facts.
External sources teach you the way you must combine facts and common knowledge in order to be able to apply it in an efficient manner in reality.

Study Tip 4: Staying Motivated

Medicine is a strenuous course in which you might be facings ups and downs regarding your performance. The key is to not let few poor performances decide your entire mindset and attitude towards your tests. Don’t get discouraged and stay motivated enough to be willing to put in more effort into areas which require it.
Talk to seniors and understand how not performing well in one test doesn’t equal to an unsuccessful career. The hard work you put in will definitely reap benefits so keep moving forward positively.

Study Tip 5: Love what you do

Medicine is a service towards the public. You must full-heartedly be able to make optimum use of your time and deliver work of the highest quality. Keep the fire of your curiosity burning and pay keen interest towards your classes and the knowledge people are willing to impart. Once you start loving the process of becoming a knowledgeable person, your journey of learning will never end and will keep taking you ahead in life.

Study Tip 6: Be Innovative

Customize the way you learn to suit your grasping ability and interest. Adopt different methods of memorizing details and maintain notes of your own so that understanding concepts becomes easy for you. Have creative ways of remembering important topics so that you don’t get bored of learning.
Focus on your goals and work hard towards achieving them. There is no excuse that will truly justify a distraction that pulled you back in your career. Stay positive and learn to recognize the effort you’ve put towards improving yourself and reward yourself with the scope of being the best in the world.
